History: In 1969, the Minnesota Golden Gophers capped off their third straight 30+ win season and second Big Ten Championship in a row. Two short years later, all around athlete and future Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield burst on the scene. In 1973, Winfield won the College World Series Most Outstanding Player Award despite the team losing to the USC Trojans. He struck out 14 Oklahoma Sooners in the opening game of the CWS and finished with an incredible.467 performance at the plate.

History:  Minot fielded a team in the Northern League 1958-1960 and again in 1962. After finishing last in 1962, the team dropped out of the league. One of their stars was Max Alvis, who later held down third base for the Cleveland Indians throughout most of the 1960s.
